Gstaad Hiking

Feeling the summer fatigue these days?

Fret no more because we have compiled some unique reasons to grab your backpack and visit Gstaad in 2019. What puts this Swiss destination on top of our list is a combination of tranquility and genuineness. Despite its ritzy name, Gstaad has remained an authentic alpine town with cutesy chalets and open hearted locals. And the best way to reach Gstaad is via the GoldenPass Line, a panoramic train that should be on anyone’s bucket list.

So, by the time you get to the bottom of our blueprint, you will see that feeling lazy is not in the cards... Here are five unique reasons to visit Gstaad in the Bernese Oberland:

Fondueland Gstaad is happening all year round

Name one good reason why fondue should only be consumed during winter! Thought so, because cheese fondue tastes great all year round. Imagine an open-air setting surrounded by mountains, pure nature, fresh air and lush meadows as far as the eyes can see...

Fondueland Gstaad

Right there is the reason why Gstaad is also called "Fondueland"! For the full experience, bring up to seven other fondue lovers to an especially designed hut with three large wooden fondue pots to sit in. There, you can dine on tasty cheese fondue while marveling at the panoramic views.

It is also possible to explore Gstaad and find your own picture-perfect fondue spot. Simply order a fondue backpack and you’re ready to go! It contains all the necessary ingredients for a fondue you will never forget...

There are lots of opportunities to get active

Do you prefer the quietness of nature over the exciting events we have just talked about? The destination of Gstaad has plenty of choices in store. Try trail running on trail 23 from Gstaad-Eggli (7.29 km, 1.45 hours.)

For hikers, one of the highlights is the scenic trail from Wispile to Lake Lauenensee. Along the way, you will experience the magic of hiking with views of the Saanenland region’s peaks towering over 3'000 meters above sea.

May 4 and 5: Be a part of the Polaroid Photo Challenge

Grab a Polaroid camera at Berghaus Wispile and take snapshots of your personal definition of spring: is it a mountain flower in full bloom, a cheeky squirrel crossing the hiking trail or your first ice cream of the year?

In the end, you will need to pick the one photograph that represents spring the best. Hang it on a wall at the Berghaus Wispile to be entered into the competition. The winners of the best three pictures will be awarded valuable prizes such as a season ticket.

The Polaroid Photo Challenge coincides with the season opening of the Wispile cable car and takes place on the weekend of May 4 and 5, 2019.

May 12: Mother's Day Lunch

Do you want to say “Thank you” to your mom for simply being your mom? Mark Sunday, May 12, in your calendar and take your mother on a surprise trip to the mountain restaurant Wispile above Gstaad.

There, you will get to enjoy a special Mother’s Day Lunch: pigs back fry with morel sauce, new potatoes and asparagus ragout. Imagine your mom’s look on her face when she sees the delicious food on her plate with the mighty mountains as a backdrop...

May 19 and May 26: Exercise and indulge at Yoga & Brunch

Are you feeling a bit stiff after the long, cold winter? A yoga session followed by a hearty brunch is your answer. Let us break it down for you: on Sunday morning, May 19, pack your yoga mat and hop on the cable car to Wispile in Gstaad.

After practicing the downward-facing-dog position with a local yoga teacher, head to the brunch buffet at Berghaus Wispile. If the weather is good, the one-hour yoga session will take place outside with mountain views. Otherwise, you can roll out your yoga mat inside the alpine house. That’s Yoga & Brunch in a nutshell.

Sounds tempting? Book your place in advance at marketing@gstaad.ch or by phone at +41 33 748 81 80.

Gstaad is worth a visit during every season of the year. As for us, we’re planning to attend some of these unique spring events and do some hiking in late summer.
