Switzerland is mooving in a new direction by utilizing one of their most valued asset in udderly new ways: cows!
Llama trekking, donkey trekking or even hiking with mules has been around for a long time. But cow trekking is a fairly new activity which we could not resist.
Cow trekking in Switzerland
On a recent summer weekend, we drove out to Bolderhof, an organic farm in Hemishofen in the canton of Schaffhausen. Before this visit, we have never actually ridden a cow... Knowing that these bovines creates can be quite moody, we did not know what to expect.
The entrepreneurial farmers of the Bolderhof offer shorter and longer cow trekking trips. We opted to test ride a cow on just a short circuit by the farm. But the half-day trips involve riding along the Rhine river and stopping for a picnic.
Needless to say, we had a blast! How do you feel about cow trekking? Do you like it or does llama trekking suit you better?

I saw this and it is supremely funny to me and is now on the top of my to-do list! I totally am going to go ride a cow :)
Let us know when you’re ready, and we might just join you!!!
Oh mammamia! I love cows but I’ve seen the way those girls can buck. Calm it down with a good dose of Swiss schnaps and you might get me to try!
OMG!!! I am so going to do this with my two little girls when we move there in July!!! What awesome pics those will be! I can just hear all of my friends and family now back here in the States!!! LOL!!
Dear Yolanda: You should (and please keep us posted on your experience)!!!
@Aurélie: That’s actually a great idea! Our group could easily spread the word in English, German and French…
This looks sooo cool! We should organise a bloggers’ event there. I’m sure some of us would love to try and write about it !
When I was I kid a spent a lot of time at a farm of a friend of mine. We tried riding the calfs there. It was a bit of a rodeo but a lot of fun. So this sounds great to me.
@Leah: Wow, this is the first testament of a cow rider I have ever heard! I think we will be trying it out on 1st of August, so I will be sure to report back ;-)
