I cannot get my eyes off of these innovative masterpieces from Christian Grund's CARSCANS project! Inspired by David Hockney's picture collages and recent cataloging trends such as Google Earth, his objects are comprised of individual scans.
That's right: Scans as in scanned images from a regular flatbed scanner, which Grund used to cover his objects one A4-sized scan at a time! Each piece of art was then meticuously assembled by 120-250 individual scans, which resulted in sort of a pixelated version of reality.
His motifs are icons from automobile history, some of which made it big while others were replaced and forgotten.
The CARSCANS were displayed in real life at Photogarage in Zürich from Nov 25 - Dec 1, 2011.
