Monocle’s Quality of Life Conference (Zürich)

In March 2018, the consultancy and research firm Mercer ranked Zürich second overall for quality of life behind Vienna and in front of Munich.

The Swiss financial capital and largest city has ranked in the top five for years now despite the often reported downsides of expense and integration. It is therefore fitting that the Limmatstadt joins the ranks of Lisbon, Vienna and Berlin in hosting the Monocle Quality of Life Conference.

Welcoming Monocle to Zürich

In April, Tyler Brûlé’s Monocle Magazine will open its new Zurich office in the Dufourstrasse in the city’s publishing quarter. With the expansion in Switzerland, Mr Brûle has also chosen to make Zürich the host city of the 2018 edition of Monocle’s Quality of Life Conference.

This year, there will be a particular focus on entrepreneurship and “what it takes to make it in the city”. Expect an event featuring apéros, drinks and an array of speakers on topics of urbanism, publishing and retail. If you are at all interested in any of these topics and hoping to make a splash in them, this conference is for you.

In Monocle’s characteristic clarity, the site states why such a conference is necessary: “We don’t measure connections by comments on backlit screens or likes on a social-media feed. Instead, a firm handshake, swapped card and drink at the bar are much seemlier options for sealing deals and drumming up contacts. Our conferences allow delegates to forge friendships and cut to the chase with experts on subjects from entrepreneurship to the arts and urbanism to design. We also have a firm ‘good coffee and no lanyards’ policy.”
