New Orleans Food Experience at Ristorante Albarella in Ascona

Just footsteps from all the JazzAscona action sits the idyllic Hotel Ascovilla. And on June 26, the in-house Ristorante Albarella offers a memorable New Orleans Food Experience including live music.

The Geoff Bull International Jazz Band is known for its traditional New Orleans Jazz that makes you want to tap your feet. The namesake band leader is an Australian trumpeter who is said to be one of the best New Orleans style trumpeters out there. Way back in 1966, he had traveled to the Crescent City to be trained by the master performers of the time.

Apart from the authentic music, what we also like about this band is that Geoff Bull takes his musician friends from all over the world along on his tours - including to Ascona. This summer in the beautiful garden of Ristorante Albarella, expect musicians from Japan (clarinet), the Netherlands (banjo) or Belgium (trombone).

What's included in the Jazz Dinner on June 26?

While you are enjoying the live music, the Ristorante Albarella kitchen will dish out a four-course Jazz Dinner. The evening starts with an appetizer of raw tuna, combined with crunchy seasonal vegetables, fresh mint and watermelon on a raspberry vinaigrette. Executive Chef Samuele Schelker will then spoil you with the next course, a dish of ravioli with a pike-perch fillet, zucchini and almond milk.

For the main dish, the chef will take you to the Mediterranean with a veal roast and risotto flavored with summer truffle. Finally, the night will end with a Black Forest cake. For 72 francs per person, including live music in the restaurant's subtropical garden, this promises to be a night to remember.

About Hotel Ascovilla in Ascona

We like the hotel's central location within walking distance from the popular promenade in Ascona. With a vast pool garden, a spa and tropical palm trees all over the property, the Hotel Ascovilla is in the same league as many a five-star hotel we have stayed at in the past.

On our recent visit, we could tell that the management takes great care to accommodate not only repeat customers, but first-timers such as us. The cheerful atmosphere in the breakfast room showed that many returning guests know one another, and that this is a popular hotel for generational family gatherings.

This four-star house has just been renovated and offers an even better value for the money than before. Apart from the 49 rooms are six suites with terraces as large as city apartments.
