Most Unique Vegetable Tableware

Biodegradeable Tableware - GraftEvery bite is supposed to serve as a reminder of the materials used to make these special utensils: Biodegradeable PLA.

In fact, PLA is a corn based plastic which is commonly derived from vegetable fats, oils or starches. Most of us have probably used plastic tableware made from this plastic before. But Swiss artist Qiyun Deng has taken the ugliness out of plastic utensils by creating this fantastic set of forks, knives and spoons.

According to the artist:

"A celery stem for example, serves as handle for the fork; a petal of artichoke then becomes the bowl of spoon. By waking both visual and haptic sensation it brings along a question: Will you throw them away easily?"

Unfortunately, these utensils are not ready for mass production yet as they were part of a diploma project at École cantonale d’art de Lausanne.

Maybe a Kickstarter campaign is all that's needed to see this innovation come to fruition... Anyone?
