It was one of those weekends when my husband and I decided to go on a trek to the Niederhorn near Beatenberg. After having scaled the Schilthorn in a freezing cold winter years back, I wondered what my first summer trek on a mountain would be like.
Soon I knew – it felt soothing to breathe the fresh mountain air and absorbing the beautiful sights and sounds the mountain has to offer. We went all the way up in the cable car – slowly ascending, whilst getting spectacular views of the panaroma, bit by bit.
And as we reached the top, every bit of earth was covered in green and interspersed by an array of colors. This was probably a day I suddenly realized I had a poet in me, and that the dirt scooter was not really something to fear.
For the first-timers, I highly recommend renting one of these dirt scooters at the middle station or in the Bärgrestaurant Vorsass and going down – it is an experience you will not forget - pleasantly I promise, if you do not apply the brakes too hard! Visit the restaurants on top and enjoy the view as you sip on your chiller, or just sit on one of the wooden benches in the midst of the greenery, and watch the bees bumble by.
No excuse for the Niederhorn, no way. It´s finally summer in sweet Switzerland!
