There are a myriad of options when it comes to booking a hotel online. With the amount of travel we do, it saves us time to focus on a single website – as opposed to switching from one broker to another.
Our preferred site for hotel bookings turns out to be Hotels.com. The reason for our preference is their lucrative loyalty program. For every 10 nights we book on hotels.com, we get one night for free. (With a couple dozen bookings per year, this comes out to about two free nights.) Here, we have dug up some true hotel gems for a weekend getaway in Switzerland with Hotels.com.
Wellnesshotel Golf Panorama in Thurgau
Set in the beautiful countryside near Lake Constance, Wellnesshotel Golf Panorama is the perfect vantage point for a weekend of bicycling. Golfers will appreciate the hotel’s course starting at the door step, with views of autumn forests and the peaks of the Alpstein.
The hotel has an amazing spa for those who prefer swimming in a pool, sweating in a Finnish sauna, soaking in a steam bath or even relaxing in the outdoor salt water jacuzzi.
Part of the Private Selection Hotels portfolio, Wellnesshotel Golf Panorama near Kreuzlingen has a four star superior rating. No wonder, because at 27 sq meters, these are some of the largest double rooms we have ever encountered in Switzerland… The modern interior design features no less than a king size bed.
Hotel HUUS in Saanen/Gstaad
On of the newest players in this popular destination is the Hotel HUUS. With a projected opening date of December 2016, the winner of the Hotels.com contest will be able to book a ski weekend in this stylish four star superior hotel.
The concept is in the name of the Hotel: “Huus” is Swiss German for home – as in “mi casa es su casa”. Thanks to a variety of amenities and services that are included in the stay, guests are supposed to feel relaxed and welcomed. How many hotels have their own ski school? Not many. We are just as curious as you to try out this promising new hotel once it opens its doors…
Art Deco Hotel Montana in Lucerne
This grand hotel is majestically situated above Lucerne, with stunning views of the lake and the mountains. We like Lucerne for many reasons, be it for its cultural offerings, sightseeing, food or hiking.
We have yet to stay at this property, but it is high up on our list… After a boat ride on Lake Lucerne or a piano concert at the KKL concert hall, it would feel very exclusive to retreat to the Art Deco Hotel Montana.
Built in 1909 when tourism started booming thanks to the Gotthard railway, this four-star city hotel seems unlike any others. It has retained the art deco ambiance which is typical of this epoche. Each room is unique, some with black-and-white floor tiles, others with clawfoot bathtubs.
Nomad Design & Lifestyle in Basel
The Nomad Design & Lifestyle Hotel is every yuppie’s dream. Located just footsteps from the old town where all the action is, this modern hotel brings together city and nature with its simple and modern interior. A bar at night and a restaurant by day, the Nomad is just as popular among locals as it is among design aficionados and urbanites. The Nordic vibe inspires us to take the camera out for a spin…
Those who have never stayed in Basel are missing out: This town by the Rhine river is full of arts and culture. There is a museum for everyone, including one dedicated to the craft of paper making. The Kunstmuseum Basel with its vast collection has recently been re-opened in a new building, and the Fondation Beyeler just outside of Basel is worth a trip in itself.
Hotel Alpenblick in Bern
When the trees along the Aare river change color and the coffee houses fill with locals, you can tell that autumn is here. The old town of Bern is considered UNESCO World Heritage, an we believe that the off-seasons are best to explore the many sights.
Our favorites are strolling through the farmer’s market on Saturdays, stopping by Adrianos for a cold brew and peaking inside the Zytglogge clock tower with a Bern Tourism guide.
Hotel Alpenblick is located outside of the old town in a more alternative neighborhood. But with Bern being so compact, you can reach the old town, the Rosengarten or the bear park in less than 20 minutes. This boutique hotel surprises with its hip interior design, and everyone is praising the breakfast buffet. All around a perfect choice for a city getaway in the fall…
