The diplomatic relations of Switzerland and the United States were established in early 19th century. However, the intercultural exchange took place much before that.
Since the movement of Theobald von Erlach to the New World in the early 16th century, there have been thousands of Swiss who have settled in America. They have also named a few places such as New Glarus, Greutli or Bernstadt. In recent times, the Swiss movement to the United States has receded while Americans find Switzerland to be one of the top destinations for expat life.
